Long time West Fargo resident Doris was torn. She had lived in her home since the early 70’s but it was time to downsize and move to an apartment. Much of her furniture was dated but is was in good shape and she wanted to see someone get some value out of it.
Enter Furniture Mission of the RRV. A new 501C3 corporation in the FM area that specializes in picking up slightly used furniture and giving it a facelift before giving to other that may still have a use for it. She did not want to see it go to a landfill. Some church friends knew of the Furniture Mission and put us in contact with Doris. Our soon to be updated truck rolled in and we were able to load more than a truckload of furniture. It would not all fit so a volunteer pick up was filled to overflowing as well. Our group with “lifting volunteers” from a facility in Fargo made their way to the FM warehouse in the Fargo industrial park. Our new sign had just been installed and looks great. In the meantime, FM staff had help four different families receive slightly used furniture the same time we were picking up more furniture. Clients ranged from new families to individuals starting over in life. They were so appreciative of the furniture they could not thank our staff enough. Furniture Mission of the RRV does not charge for their pickup service but donations are always welcome to cover the costs of the lifting team and gas and insurance for the truck. Today, all three givers that we picked up from were very generous. Thanks, Doris, for sharing your slightly used furniture so others will make their house into a home. |
