In 2019, a small group of compassionate problem solvers learned about Furniture Mission of South Dakota. After some exploration with agencies and non-profits in the Fargo Moorhead community, it was clear that this type of organization would not only support families in crisis but other groups who are providing services as well. From that moment, Furniture Mission of the Red River Valley was born. The rest of 2019 was spent pulling together the pieces to become a recognized 501c3 non-profit organization, not to mention acquiring warehouse space and a truck to collect donations. Along the way, more and more people learned about the work of those initial few and began volunteering in whatever way they could. These pieces came together in the spring of 2020 when we started serving clients out of our first warehouse space.

In 2020 we partnered with 5 local agencies to refer clients to receive furniture, serving 130 by the end of December. As word spread, we kept partnering with more referral agencies and serving more clients. In 2021, we served 453 local families. 2022, 624 families. We're currently up to 40 local agencies who refer families to receive furniture, and will likely end 2023 with nearly 700 households served. 

What do we do this? It starts with our Christian roots, and the desire to be the hands and feet of our lord Jesus Christ through meaningful service. It's about showing love and compassion to our neighbors while providing a much needed service in our community. 

What started as a vision by a group of faithful servants and quickly transformed into an organization that helps thousands of local families every year struggling with furniture insecurity. We're grateful to serve, and grateful to be part of a generous community.​
