This spring we surpassed 4 years of providing furniture to in our community. Since our start in 2020 we have certainly learned a thing or two along the way. Some things we knew right away, others we learned over time. Here are a few: Volunteers Are The Heartbeat Of Our Mission. This was something we knew from the start, with our operation being largely volunteer run. From board members, warehouse helpers, drivers, client supporters, and other special projects – volunteers make it all happen. Today our volunteers continue to show up each week with helping hand and caring hearts to help furnish new beginnings for families in crisis. A Generous Community. We continue to be blown away at how our community has rallies behind our mission. From furniture items to financial contributions, we have seen donors say yes to supporting our efforts. This is especially evident during Giving Hearts Day, Caring Catalog, and other community giving campaigns. We also appreciate the number of churches, service clubs and employee groups who have invited us to share our story as well as the local media outlets who have featured us. As we grow the support form our community grows with us and we are truly grateful. Critical Need, Confirmed. Before we started in 2020 we connected with a number of local non-profit leaders asking the question if there would be a need for what we do. After a resounding YES, our founding volunteers got to work on what we know as Furniture Mission of the Red River Valley. Today, we continue to serve the critical need for furniture that exists in our community. It’s humbling to be part of a solution that in 4 years has served over 2,100 families with over 26,000 pieces of furniture. Those families are referred by 40 local organizations who also support people in crisis or critical transitions. What we suspected in 2020 we can confirm today – that we are serving a critical need in our community. A Little Faith Goes a Long Way. From the very beginning FMRRV has been grounded in faith. It’s through our service that we strive to be the hands and feet of our Savior, Jesus Christ, serving those who come to us regardless of race, religion, or background with dignity and respect. Not only that, but every opportunity and obstacle we’ve had continues to be woven together with the unmistakable thread of the Lord. We feel strongly that we are doing the right work at the right time for the right reason. In my 2 years as Executive Director, I have witnessed firsthand the impact we have with local families in need. Our commitment is to continue to grow to meet the need that exists in our community by honoring the lessons we’ve learned in the past while being open to new ways we can enhance our mission in the future. It has truly been a blessing to be a part of this work, and I am grateful for it every day. Thank you for being a part of it, too!
